Requirements

Curricular

Successful completion of the following courses: 

  • Principles of Economics (ECON 50 or equivalent)
  • Accounting for Decision Makers (ECON 86 or equivalent)
  • Introduction to Computer Science (CS 5 or equivalent)
  • Statistics (any course/department)

Additional upper courses (recommended, but not required) such as:

  • Media Studies
  • Leading Entrepreneurial Ventures
  • Entrepreneurial Finance and Venture Capital
  • Entrepreneurial Economics
  • Politics of the Gig Economy
  • Management of Innovation
  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Advanced courses on AI, Robotics, etc.

CIE Sponsored C0-Curricular Workshops and Seminars

Successful completion of a minimum of 9 co-curricular workshops is required (*2 per year), but Fellows are welcomed/encouraged to participate in the full schedule. In addition to the CIE Sponsored Workshops, full or partial credit may be offered to Fellows for participating in events hosted by other campus organizations that further the goal of preparing students to be innovative entrepreneurs.

Internship

One approved summer internship (preferably between Junior and Senior years) with companies in Silicon Beach, Downtown LA, Pasadena, Orange County, Silicon Valley. Appropriate employers include established tech companies, early-stage firms, and incubators.

Fellows can apply to receive a stipend to help support their approved summer internship.

Research Project

Students must conduct research related to entrepreneurship/innovation. Select one of the following:

  • Write a senior thesis on a research question related to entrepreneurship/innovation (supervised by a faculty member)
  • Work as a CIE Research Analyst with a faculty member
  • Complete a research project on a relevant topic as an independent study or in coordination as part of CMC’s Summer Internship Program
  • Other approved research opportunity

Leadership Opportunities

  • As a team, each year the Fellows class plan one on-campus event (competition, networking event, etc.)
  • Fellows will have the opportunity to apply for a CIE Student Leadership Team position
